CAT Results 2023: Indian Institute of Technology Lucknow has released the CAT results 2023 on December 21, 2023 at iimcat.ac.in. The next step for IIM admissions 2024 selection process includes group discussion, personal interview, and written ability test. 

Candidates with the highest CAT exam 2023 score will be shortlisted for the group discussion, PI, and WAT rounds. Other eligibility factors including undergraduate degree score, performance in high school, and work experience are a plus point in IIM selection. 

The selection process is likely to begin in January, 2024. Eligible candidates will be called in for interview rounds by individual IIMs. To increase the chances of selection, candidates can have a look at the following tips about performing in group discussions and personal interviews. 

CAT Exam 2023: Factors Considered for IIM Selection

After the CAT results are out, candidates are shortlisted for admission based on various factors. These include:

CAT exam score: The CAT exam score plays an important role in determining which IIM will offer admission to the candidate. The highest scoring candidates are offered admission to the top tier IIMs including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi, and Kozhikode. 

Graduation score: Candidates’ performance in their undergraduate degree programs also plays an important role in the selection process. 

Class 12th and 10th score: The selection committee also considers the candidate’s performance in their high school certificate examination.

Work experience: Candidates with an impressive work background are given more preference for an admission offer.

CAT Exam 2023: IIM Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for the IIM selection process includes having a minimum aggregate score of 50% in graduation. However, there are some additional eligibility criteria for candidates from reserved categories:

  • Candidates from general category must have a minimum aggregate score of 50% in their respective undergraduate degrees. 
  • Candidates belonging to reserved categories including SC/ST/OBC must have a minimum aggregate score of 45% to be eligible.
  • If the candidates have not completed their undergraduate degree, they must at least be appearing in the final examination in the same year as appearing in the CAT exam
  • Only those candidates will receive the interview call who meet the assigned cut off for CAT and successfully clear the GD and PI rounds

IIM Admissions 2024: GD-PI Process

After the release of cut off lists for CAT 2023, the eligible candidates will move forward with the group discussion and personal interview rounds. These rounds are designed to screen the most eligible candidates among the thousands of applicants. 

The group discussion will take place among a set group of CAT aspirants with a number of IIM officials assessing them. The candidates who are successful in clearing the GD will be shortlisted for the personal interview. 

Once the personal interview is cleared, the candidates will get an admission offer from the individual IIMs. 

IIM Admissions 2024: GD-PI Important Tips

To perform well in the group discussion and personal interviews, candidates can use the given tips for IIM Admissions 2024. 

Tips for IIM Group Discussion 2024

The group discussion will take place in the presence of the IIM officials. Here are a few tips to perform well in the GD:

  • Stay updated about current affairs in context of national and international events
  • Work on your listening skills. Since it’s a group discussion, the panel will closely observe your listening skills and ability to respond to the speaker
  • Have a clear mindset about each opinion you put forward. If you are not clear with your points, you will come across as an under confident candidate
  • Start reading editorials and newspapers regularly for a good command on your language and knowledge

Tips for IIM Personal Interview 2024

Candidates qualifying in the GD will then move forward for the personal interview round. Here is how to perform well in the interview:

  • Dress formally for the interview
  • Introduce yourself in a brief and crisp manner
  • Speak about your education and career experience. Talk about your family background only if the interviewer asks about it
  • Remember to keep your answers short and to the point
  • The interviewers don’t like when a candidate tries too hard to appear overconfident. Don’t talk about anything which is not relevant to the interview
  • Smile and try to appear as confident and calm as possible

The selected candidates in the interview round will be offered admission to the respective IIMs.
