The Indian Navy will announced the recruitment for Senior Secondary Recruits (SSR) in the Medical Assistant. The online registration process will tentatively open in Early September and run till Late September 2025 on the official website, joinindiannavy.gov.in. 

The position of Medical Assistant involves providing medical care and support to naval personnel, assisting in various medical procedures, and ensuring overall health and wellness on board and at naval establishments. Unmarried male candidates will be invited to apply for enrolment as sailors in the Medical Branch for the Navy SSR (Medical Assistant) in the November 2025 batch.

In addition to the SSR Medical Assistant positions, the Indian Navy also recruits for other roles such as Tradesman Mate. Indian Navy recruits tradesmen who are responsible for effectively carrying out tasks that are related to intra-state or inter-state trade.

According to the official notification published by the Indian Navy, candidates seeking the role of SSR Medical Assistant must be unmarried. The selection process for Indian Navy Recruitment varies based on positions and departments. 

SSR (Medical Assistant): Selection Process

The selection process for the SSR (Medical Assistant) batch involves two stages. In Stage I, candidates are shortlisted based on their 10+2 aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Candidates with marks exceeding the quota are further shortlisted based on date of birth, giving priority to those who are older. Shortlisted candidates will receive a call-up letter for Stage II.

Stage II consists of Physical Fitness Test (PFT), Written Examination, and Medical Examination. It consists of 100 questions from four sections—English, Science, Biology, and General Awareness/Reasoning Ability—each carrying 25 marks. 

It is compulsory for students to pass in the Physical Fitness Test as per the following standard set by the Indian Navy:

Candidates who clear the PFT and written exam undergo a medical examination at designated centres of the Indian Navy.

Tradesman Mate: Selection Process

The selection process for the Indian Navy Tradesman Mate post consists of the following stages:

  • Online Application: Candidates must submit an application through the official Indian Navy recruitment portal. Based on eligibility criteria, candidates are shortlisted for the next stage.
  • Written Examination: A computer-based test (CBT) is conducted, consisting of objective-type questions. The exam covers topics such as General Intelligence & Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude, General English, and General Awareness. The total duration is 90 minutes.
  • Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates must present original documents for verification to confirm eligibility.
  • Medical Examination: Candidates who pass the document verification undergo a medical fitness examination as per naval standards.

Indian Navy Recruitment 2025: Salary & Benefits 

The salary and compensation package for an SSR Medical Assistant is  comprehensive and rewarding. During the initial training period, candidates receive a stipend of ₹14,600 per month. Upon successful completion of training, they are placed in Level 3 of the Defence Pay Matrix, earning between ₹21,700 and ₹69,100, along with a Monthly Stipend (MSP) of ₹5,200 and applicable Dearness Allowance (DA). 

There are also significant promotion prospects, with potential advancement to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer-I (Level 8), which offers a salary range of ₹47,600 to ₹1,51,100, plus MSP and DA. High-performing individuals may have opportunities to advance to commissioned officer ranks by passing prescribed examinations and Services Selection Boards. Additionally, the position provides books, reading materials, uniforms, food, and accommodation. 

Sailors are also entitled to medical treatment, Leave Travel Concessions, Group Housing Benefits, Annual and Casual Leave, Children Education Allowances, and House Rent Allowances. Post-retirement benefits include pension, gratuity, and Leave encashment. An insurance cover of ₹75 lakhs is also provided, ensuring financial security for the sailors and their families.
