Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai (REC Chennai) is an autonomous technical university affiliated with Anna University and was established in the year 1997. REC Chennai courses are AICTE-approved and NAAC-accredited with an ‘A++’ Grade. REC Chennai has received accreditation for undergraduate Engineering programs from the NBA. REC Chennai has secured the 86th position in the engineering courses by NIRF Ranking 2023.

REC Chennai offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in engineering, biotechnology, management, and sciences. The flagship course offered at REC Chennai is B.Tech. REC Chennai B.Tech admission requires a Higher Secondary Certificate degree (10+2) with 50% marks (40-45% for reserved category). Admission will be through TNEA Counselling. The total number of students admitted by REC Chennai under the UG program was 7277 in 2023. REC Chennai B.Tech. tuition fee is INR 50,000 per year.

REC Chennai admission to different programs is based on merit, while some require a national-level entrance scorecard. Shortlisted will be called for an interview/counselling round as per the requirement.

REC Chennai B.Tech./B.E. Admission 2024

REC Chennai B.E./B.Tech. admission in Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc., applicants must have completed their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) from Tamil Nadu. Admission to B.E. and B.Tech. programs are through TNEA counseling and are based on merit.

REC Chennai M.E./M.Tech. Admission 2024

REC Chennai M.E./M.Tech. admission in Avionics, Computer Science and Engineering, Engineering Design, Medical Electronics, Bio-Technology, Data Science, and Engineering Design are based on performance on the TANCET/GATE scorecard.

REC Chennai Ph.D. Admission 2024

REC Chennai Ph.D. admission in Chemistry, Computer Science and Engineering, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mathematics, and Mechanical Engineering students must qualify for the UGC-NET/JRF/SET exam. This will be followed by an interview. 

Only students who qualify for the internal entrance test and meet the cut-off will be called for a group discussion and then a personal interview. Applications for Ph.D. admission to Anna University can be submitted by mail.

REC Chennai is quick and generous in recognizing, appreciating, and encouraging meritorious students for their excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities.

• Raghavan Memorial Merit Award- This award is presented to the student with the highest academic achievement among first-year students from all branches, and covers tuition fees for one year.
• Lady Parvatham Trust Award- This award is given to the student with the highest academic achievement among second, third, and fourth-year students from all branches, and includes a cash prize.
• Thiruvenkatam Sivasailam Endurance Prize- Two scholarships are awarded each to one male and one female student who demonstrates a positive attitude and a fighting spirit to overcome challenges and show improved performance.
