University of Jammu is a public university in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir that was founded in 1969 by an act of the state government. The institute was established when the J&K government split the University of Kashmir into two universities, one called the University Kashmir and the other the University of Jammu. The institute is accredited with Grade A+ by NAAC with a 3.51 score on a four-point scale by NAAC. Popularly known as Jammu University, the institution holds the distinction of being the first university in India to be certified to ISO-9001. The university is ranked #63 in the university category by NIRF Ranking 2023.

With 11 faculties and 36 academic departments, the university offers 61 courses at UG, PG, and doctoral level in multiple specializations. The university also offers distance learning options for a number of its normal programmes, including B.A., B.Com, M.A., M.Com, and PG Diploma. Admission to any of the regular programmes at Jammu University is based on the JUET test, where applicants must score at least the minimum to be chosen. The number of seats available at Jammu University varies depending on the programme, but typically ranges from 30 to 50 for each program. Jammu University fee structure varies for each program and is subject to change each year. However, the university has a low tuition fee and offers its students a high-quality education. Furthermore, the institute offers its students OC & MIL Scholarships, PG Scholarships, Merit-Cum-Means Scholarships, Research Scholarships, LLB Scholarships, among others.

Jammu University Admissions

Majorly, admissions are conducted on the basis of the candidate’s performance in the entrance exam conducted by the university, which is called Jammu University Entrance Test (JUET). This is mainly for the UG programmes as for PG programmes, appearing for relevant exams like CAT or CMAT is mandatory.  

Jammu University UG Admissions 

• Candidates must make sure they are meeting the eligibility criteria to before the registration
• Eligible candidates must apply to courses based on their preference 
• After registration, interest candidates must appear for the Jammu University Entrance Test
• Based on the overall performance, shortlisted candidates will be notified for further process which will involve an interview round and counseling
• Document verification and payment of fee is the final process

Jammu University PG Admissions (Excluding MBA and M.Phil)

• Candidates must make sure they are meeting the eligibility criteria to before the registration
• Candidates must choose a specialization according to their past academic records and register for JUET
• Candidates will be shortlisted according to their performance in JUET
• Shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification and further process

Jammu University MBA Admissions 

• Eligible candidates have to appear for CAT/MAT/CMAT
• Candidates with overall satisfactory academic performance and valid test scores will be called for further rounds - Group discussions and personal interviews
• Shortlisted candidates will be called for documents verification

Jammu University M.Phil Admissions 

• Eligible candidates will have to appear for UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR-NET/SLET/SET/GATE 
• Students who have not appeared for these exams, can opt for the university entrance exam
• Shortlisted candidates will be called for further rounds
• Documents verification will be the last process

Jammu University Ph.D Admissions 

• Eligible candidates will have to appear for the university entrance exam, if the candidate has given UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR-NET/SLET/SET/GATE they will be  exempted from the entrance exam
• Shortlisted candidates are called for a personal interview round
• Admission is offered based on the overall performance in the exam and the interview
• Selected students will be called for document verification

Jammu University Placement

The university has a dedicated placement responsible for conducting placement drives for students. Jammu University Placement 2021 witnessed the participation of various companies offering a median package of INR 3.8 LPA to undergraduate students. While, for PG students, the median package remains at INR 4.8 LPA. In comparison to 2020, the institute experienced a roughly 6% rise in the UG and PG median package provided during placement.

Jammu University Facilities 

With the campus spread across 118 acres, the university accommodates more than 8400 students and 326 faculty members. With 80 government and 83 non-government affiliated colleges and 8 off-campus, the university of Jammu provides numerous support facilities to its students and faculty members. It has an air-conditioned library with more than 3000 volumes and access to thousands of e-Journals. The university has seminar halls, cutting-edge laboratories, and accommodation facilities. 

Hostel- The university provides a girl’s and a boys’ hostel, respectively, and is fully residential. The hostels include indoor sports facilities, along with water, and cooking facilities. Apart from this, the institution also has staff quarters for its faculty members.

Library-  The library is where the magic happens, as it provides students with more than  3,50,000 books and other needed materials for academic and research purposes. These include books of various genres like subject-relayed, fiction, non-fiction, and more. Additionally, students have access to a  digitized library as well. 

Sports- The university focuses on both indoor and outdoor sports needs of the students. This includes cricket, volleyball, football, and even yoga amongst other sports and physical activities. 

Cafeteria- Besides the general corner canteens, two main cafeterias are provided for students and the faculty members. Nutritious yet delicious meals are served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 

In conclusion, the university is capable of providing a good life of growth and development to its students. It has a modern IT infrastructure and transportation facilities, plus a well staffed/equipped infirmary for medical needs. The entire campus is enabled with a strong wifi connection that runs 24 hours a day.
