CAT Percentile Score – Methodology
The methodology to calculate the percentile obtained by candidates in the CAT exam 2024 is as follows:
Step 1 – The first step is to calculate the total number of students who appeared for the exam.
Step 2 – Based on the scaled score (normalised score) achieved by candidates, assign them a rank {R}. If two or more candidates have scored the same marks, the assigned rank will be identical.
For example, if two candidates achieve the highest scaled score, both will be assigned a rank of 1. Similarly, the candidate(s) with the second-highest scaled score will be assigned a rank of 3, and the ranking will continue in this manner.
Step 3 – Calculate the percentile score (p) of a candidate with a rank {R}:
𝑃 = (𝑁 − 𝑟)/N x 100
Step 4 – After calculating the CAT percentile, round off the score up to two decimal points.
Note – The same methodology is used to calculate the CAT sectional percentile score.
