IISER Kolkata: Admissions 2024, Courses, Ranking, Placement and Facilities

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata: Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata (IISER Kolkata) is an Public autonomous research institute, established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now Ministry of Education), Government of India in the year 2006. It ranked 43 in the overall institution ranking and 40 in research institution rankings of NIRF 2023. 

The admission at all IISER institutions is through IISER Aptitude Test (IAT).The application window for IAT 2024 has been closed. The test is scheduled to be conducted on June 9, 2024. The hall ticket for the same will be released on June 1, 2024. Candidates can download their admit card online through the university website: iiseradmission.in.  The choice of IISERs has to be filled up by candidates ONLY after the declaration of the IAT results.

IISER Kolkata offers a 5 Year BS-MS Dual Degree Programme, Master of Science Programme, MS in Space Physics, Integrated PhD Programme, Doctor of Philosophy Programme and Post Doctoral Research Programme.

IISER Kolkata overall NIRF ranking slid down by 3 ranks in the year 2023. It was ranked 40 in overall category in 2022 and 35 in 2021. 

IISER Kolkata Placement

According to the data available in the NIRF Ranking 2024, the total number of students placed in the year is 11 and around 112 students went for higher education to different colleges and universities. In IISER Kolkata placement, the students in the 5 Year UG PG Integrated Program were offered a median package of 7 Lakhs Per Annum (LPA).

Interested students need to apply for IISER Kolkata admission through an online application portal. IISER Kolkata: Infrastructure and Facilities

IISER Kolkata has its main campus located at Mohanpur where all the administrative and academic activities are conducted. The large campus is spread across a lush green environment that accommodates Hostels, Medical, Library, Guest Houses, Campus School, Laboratories, Virtual Classroom, Students’ Monitored Canteen, Mind Care and Wellness Centre and much more.

Hostels

The campus of IISER Kolkata has 3 hostels, namely, The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Hall, The Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Hall and The Nivedita Hall

Library

IISER Kolkata has a multipurpose library where along with the library services, it also acts as documentation and information center catering to education and research in basic sciences.

Computer Center

The department provides a computer lab for students and researchers. It has around 50 desktops, with some combined into a small research cluster called Meghnad.

For secure connections to the institute's servers, staff are required to use a master certificate issued by the institute itself. This certificate ensures both secure communication and proper user verification.

Ramanujan Virtual Classroom

The Ramanujan Virtual Classroom lets students attend classes live with teachers at other locations. It uses video chat over the internet, so location doesn't matter. The classroom also has wifi and wired internet for a smooth connection.

Mind Care and Wellness Centre

Our student support services include skilled therapists who can help students with their difficulties. These therapists believe in students' strengths and focus on helping them develop their inner resources to move forward in life.

Rabindranath Tagore Auditorium

The Rabindranath Tagore Auditorium at IISER Kolkata can seat around 1000 people. The hall is soundproof with air conditioning with automatic curtains, sound system and projector for presentations.
