CEPT is a government recognised university established by the Ahmedabad Education Society (AES) in 1962. Initially it ran as a society and awarded diplomas but later in 2005 it was re-established as a University by the Gujarat government. The University is recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR).
CEPT has a state of the art architecture department and was established by one the pioneer architects of India, Balkrishna Doshi. The university is based on his philosophy of the campus beyond walls where teaching takes place as much as outside as much in the classroom. Some of the most highly pursued programmes are in design, architecture, building technology, planning and management.
CEPT is ranked 6th in the domain of architecture by NIRF. It is the only private university in India to be ranked in the top 10 in this field.
