The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, successfully conducted the CAT exam on November 22, 2024. According to teachers and many students who appeared for the exam, CAT 2024 was easier and simpler compared to the previous year’s paper. This, in turn, could increase the cutoff for admission to IIMs and top MBA colleges in India this year.
Students who took the CAT exam this year should note that each Indian Institute of Management releases its qualifying cutoff separately. However, the CAT score plays only a minor role in the final MBA admission process. Based on the qualifying marks, IIMs invite students for the Written Ability Test and Group Discussion/Personal Interview rounds. The final merit list is prepared based on the students’ performance in each stage of the selection process.

Expected CAT Cutoff 2024
This year, the CAT cutoff is expected to rise, meaning more students may find themselves in the higher percentile range (99-100). As a result, colleges may tighten their admission criteria due to the limited number of MBA seats. For instance, if a candidate last year achieved a 100 percentile with a score of 95 (out of 198), they might need to score 105-110 marks this year to reach the same percentile.
With a greater number of students in the higher percentile range due to the ‘easy’ exam, IIMs and other top MBA colleges are likely to raise their CAT cut-offs.

The final percentile score required for admission to IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, and IIM Calcutta may reach up to 100 %tile for unreserved candidates. The competition is tough this year, claims teachers and experts, due to less difficult paper.

CAT Result 2024
IIM Calcutta is set to release the CAT result 2024 at iimca.ac.in. in January 2025. Last year, the result was announced in the month of December. However, there is no official confirmation yet from IIM Calcutta regarding the release date of the CAT 2024 result.
