As the registration for JEE Main 2024 will soon close, other states and private varsities too, have started their application process for the engineering entrance exams. It is common for applicants who are preparing for JEE Main to simultaneously fill out applications for other entrance exams like VITEEE and BITSAT.
Moreover, a lot of students believe that studying for many entrance exams makes it harder to concentrate on your primary objective, which is clearing JEE.
Anthony Fernandes, the founder of edtech platform Shaalaa.com, explained the differences and similarities between JEE Main and entrance exams such as VITEEE and BITSAT. “All three exams have Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as common subjects. Logical Reasoning/Aptitude and English are the subjects that make BITSAT/VITEEE different from JEE Main.”
Further, when inquired whether it is advisable to students to go for multiple entrance exams preparation such as VITEEE or BITSAT along with the JEE Main, the founder, said, “Students should prepare for other prominent engineering entrance exams as well.
This allows them to get into prestigious colleges like Vellore Institute of Technology or BITS Pilani. It provides the students the opportunity to study what they want. They might not get into IIT, but there are other good institutes as well. College is only one of the essential parts of the equation. College plays a role, but education should be the priority.”
Similarly, when we asked Mr. Nitin Viijay, Founder & CEO of Motion Education Pvt. Ltd, the same question, he responded, “Regarding BITSAT, it is highly advisable to prepare for English, Logical Reasoning, and Aptitude, as mentioned earlier. However, for VITEEE, JEE preparation is sufficient for acing the exam.”
Additionally, as advice to students, if they are unable to secure admission to a good NIT, they can invariably opt for BITSAT, as it holds a high ranking for colleges.
Similarly, when it comes to private universities, VIT is considered one of the best universities in the country. As per the NIRF Ranking 2023, Vellore Institute of Technology is ranked #11, while BITS Pilani is ranked #25 in the engineering category.
Meanwhile, Fernandes also stressed on the exam preparation strategy if a student intends to take multiple engineering entrance exams he said that the engineering exam aspirant should start preparing early and create a study timetable for all the subjects. Understanding the syllabus of each of the exams the student wants to appear in is crucial. They must combine the parts of the syllabus that are similar. Planning this will give students the confidence to appear for multiple engineering entrance exams.”
While discussing the issues students might face when they prepare for other engineering entrance exams with slightly different syllabi from JEE Main, he said that it totally depends upon the subject. He added subjects like English can be a different experience for each student depending on the background they come from. He further said subjects like Logical Reasoning and Aptitude are all about practice. Like maths, the more you practise, the better you can get at it.
To overcome such issues, he suggested that “students don’t need to feel that they are wasting time because a particular subject is not included in a specific exam, which is a matter of social status. He also recommended that students focus on themselves and on cracking the exam, ultimately giving their best efforts while preparing for it.”
