Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently stated that students now have the choice to appear for the board exams once or twice a year. It will not be compulsory for the students to appear for the board examinations twice a year.

The Union Education Ministry released the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023 in August 2023. The NCF 2023 introduced a big change in the board examination system in India. As per the latest framework, board exams will be conducted twice a year to give students more time and opportunities to perform well and choose their best scores. This change will be applicable from 2024 onwards.

This means that students will have two chances each year to take their board exams, and they can choose to keep the better of the two scores. This is a significant change from the current system, where students only have one chance to take their board exams each year.

The entire idea behind conducting board exams twice a year is to reduce the exam pressure on students. With two exam cycles in a year, students would have a second opportunity to perform well if they didn’t achieve the desired results in the first attempt. This could potentially reduce the intensity of stress associated with the fear of failure.

Moreover, the prospect of having another chance to take the exam could motivate students to maintain consistent study habits throughout the year, potentially leading to better preparation.

The National Curriculum Framework’s proposal to hold two board exams in a year would make the assessment process more equitable for all students, reduce stress and anxiety associated with board exams, and allow students to focus on learning rather than just passing the test.
