IIT Roorkee: Admission, Courses, Fees, Ranking, and Placement

The IIT Roorkee offers PhD (Engineering) programmes in all the engineering departments of the institute. The minimum qualification required for the PhD admissions is a MTech degree with a minimum of 60 percent marks or 6.0 CGPA on a 10 point scale. The eligibility criteria and the fees for the PhD programme is given below.

Eligibility:

• Candidates applying for PHD in Engineering should be qualified in a national level test, such as GATE / CEED / JEST / UGC-NET / CSIR-NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or equivalent or holding a national level fellowship
• They should also have a masters degree in engineering or technology with at least 60 percent marks or 6.0 CGPA on a 10 point scale
• Candidates with 4 year BTech from a Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI) with a minimum 70 % marks and institute other than CFTI with 75% marks can also apply for the PhD programme in engineering. They should have a national level score/ fellowship
• Candidates who have bachelor or master degree from any of the IITs with CGPA 8.0 or more can also apply for the PhD programme. They need not have a national level exam score or any fellowship

Fees:

• The tuition fee for the Ph.D program at the IIT Roorkee is INR 2,500 per semester.
• Candidates from SC/ST/PWD categories are exempted from the tuition fee. 
• Students from GE, OBC-NCL, EWS categories whose family income is less than Rs.1 lakh per annum will also receive the full exemption from the tuition fee.
• Candidates GE, OBC-NCL, EWS categories whose family income is Rs.1 lakh to Rs.5 lakhs per annum will receive an exemption of 2/3rd of the tuition fee.
