IIT Roorkee’s Historic Boat Club Helped Sorting Water Scarcity Issue in North India

A cherished symbol of IIT Roorkee’s 177 year legacy, the Boat Club at IIT Roorkee is situated along the upper Ganga canal

 IIT Roorkee was established in 1847 (as the Thomason College of Civil Engineering) to fulfil the need of a trained engineering workforce for the construction of the Upper Ganga canal

IIT Roorkee students were formally introduced to boating and swimming activities in 1876. This was the origin of the iconic ‘Boat Club’ at IIT Roorkee
