Education Budget 2024: '7 IITs, 7 IIMs, 15 AIIMS and 390 Universities set up by the government'

The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Interim Budget for financial year 2024-25. In her speech, the financial Minister said, "A large number of institutional higher learning, namely 7 IITs, 16 IIITs, 7 IIMs, 15 AIIMS and 390 Universities have been set up".

"The Skill India Mission has trained 1.4 crore youth, upskilled and re-skilled 54 lakh youth, and established 3000 new ITIs", the Finance Minister said.

"Our government plans to set up more medical colleges by utilizing the existing hospital infrastructure," Sitharaman announced.

The Finance Minister claimed that 43 percent of students enrolled in STEM are women.

The female enrollment in higher education has increased by 28 per cent in 10 years in STEM courses, the Finance Minister stated.

This increase in enrollment percentage of women in STEM courses is being reflected by their increased participation in the workforce.

The PM Shri Schools, initially mentioned in the budget speech of 2022 without any allocated funds, have received Rs 4,000 crore for the current year.

Approximately 14,500 schools are expected to be upgraded under the PM Schools for Rising India (PM Shri) initiative, incorporating elements of the National Education Policy 2020.
