CBSE proposes Open Book Exam for Classes 9 to 12, here’s what you need to know

The Central Board of Secondary Education has proposed Open Book Examinations (OBE) for students of Classes 9 to 12

The proposal is in line with the recommendations of new National Curriculum Framework released last year

In an OBE, students are allowed to refer to study material including books and notes to answer questions

Previously, CBSE had introduced the Open Text Based Assessment (OTBA) in 2014 for students of classes 9th and 11th to cater to the varied abilities of different learners

CBSE intends to conduct the pilot study for OBE in November and December in select schools

The pilot will be held for English and Mathematics for Classes 9th and 10th and for English, Mathematics and Biology in case of Class 11th and 12th

Open Book Examinations are not necessarily easier than the traditional format and are designed to test the application of concepts

CBSE aims to complete the structure and development of the OBE pilot by June, 2024
