Nine days after the exam, on May 12, 2026, the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the NEET Exam 2026 after it received information about the circulation of a ‘guess paper’ on May 7 that allegedly contained exact questions from the actual exam.

Stressing that the government would not compromise with the integrity of the exams, the minister said,

" We will not allow a moneybag to take anybody’s seat away. We are sad and worried about this unfortunate incident, but we had to take this difficult step. Our responsibility is to ensure there are zero errors. "

Introduction of a computer-based test (CBT) eliminates the conventional pen-and-paper exam format, as it requires candidates to use a computer terminal to appear for their exam. This change in exam format is aimed towards eliminating the probability of chain of command breaches and increasing fairness.
