UPSC Result 2023 Update: Engineers dominate the Civil Services Exam

A recent parliamentary standing committee report states that 70% of the recruits in the civil service by UPSC are from technical streams.
In 2017, a total of 1056 candidates were selected, with 699 coming from an engineering background. In 2018, with 812 total selections and 509 came from an engineering discipline.
However, there was a slight increase in 2019, with 922 total selections and 582 from engineering.
In 2020, the trend continued with 833 total selections and 541 from engineering. The year 2021 saw a further decrease, with 748 total selections and 452 from an engineering background.

Around 1,033 or 23% of the candidates belonged to the humanities, 315 from science, and 240 from the medical background.
From 2017-2021, out of 3337 of the total selected candidates, 2540 or 76% of the candidates were from the engineering background who had a bachelor’s degree.
UPSC (Mains) results for 2023 has been declared on the official website, but the official data will be released after final evaluation.
