The approved intake for UG engineering seats have increased to 14.90 lakh in the academic year 2024-25 as per the AICTE data

This depicts an 18.84% increase in the seats from 2021-22, when the total number of seats were 12.54 lakh, the lowest in the decade

The seat intake for engineering programmes has escalated by 10% from last year with the addition of over 1.4 lakh seats

As per the AICTE data, more than 50% increase in the seats comes from 3 southern states: Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

Tamil Nadu holds the maximum number of approved UG seats (3,08,686), followed by Andhra Pradesh (1,83,532)

The increase has been ascribed to the approvals granted to engineering and technological courses for working professionals
