Despite the suggestions to adopt computer-based testing, the NTA has notified that NEET UG 2025 will be conducted in pen and paper format, in a single day and a single shift. These are the reasons behind this decision

For an exam of this scale, shifting to online mode would  prove to be a ‘logistical nightmare’ for officials

As per a government official, only 1.5 lakh candidates can be accommodated for a single shift in the online format. Hence, for 30 lakh candidates, the exam would have to be held in multiple shifts stretching over 10 days

NTA cannot afford to repeat the errors made during first CUET, which led to the cancellation of the exam on account of ill-prepared test centres and technical glitches

A large number of NEET aspirants are from rural areas, where going digital is challenging. A change in test format 3 months before the exam would put these candidates at a disadvantage

Despite sticking to the traditional format this year, NTA officials have not ruled out changes for the long term. The registration process for NEET UG is set to commence in due course of time
