Born on September 15, 1861, in Karnataka, M Visvesvaraya is well known for his contributions to the field of science and technology

His engineering achievements include his work in irrigation techniques and flood control, especially the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam

 He also founded the Bangalore Agricultural University and Government Engineering College in Karnataka
