International Day of Education, January 24, 2024: Check Highlights

International Day of Education is an annual international observance held on January 24 dedicated to education.

UNESCO has decided to dedicate the International Day of Education on the January 24, 2024 to Afghan girls and women.

According to UNESCO, currently, around 80 per cent of school-aged Afghan girls and young women are out of school under the Taliban rule.

The theme for the event is “learning for lasting peace”

On December 3, 2018, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming January 24 as the International Day of Education.

Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights enshrined the right to education.

It is the sixth International Day of Education, the first was celebrated on January 24, 2019
