International Day of the Girl: History
In 1995, the Beijing Conference on Women saw unanimous adoption of the progressive Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which notably addressed the rights of girls. On December 19, 2011, the UN General Assembly declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child to highlight girls' rights and the specific challenges they encounter worldwide.
