Indian students have witnessed a 38% drop from last year in F-1 student visas issued from January to September. Only 64,008 F-1 visas were issued to Indians during this period, down from 103,495 in 2023

Around 20,000 F-1 visa appointment slots for Indian students went unused during the peak application months (May to July)

The F-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa for students attending academic institutions in the US. F -1 visas make up over 90% of all US student visas annually

Chinese students also saw an 8% decline in F-1 visas (73,781 in 2024 vs. 80,603 in 2023). However, it is a less severe drop than Indians
