The government presented a Bill in the Lok Sabha aimed at imposing penalties, including imprisonment ranging from 3 to 10 years and fines exceeding Rs 1 crore, for misconduct in public examinations

The Bill aims to enhance transparency, fairness, and credibility in public examinations, ensuring that sincere efforts of the youth are duly recognized and their future secured

The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024, covers major national recruitment and entrance exams conducted by UPSC, SSC, RRBs, IBPS, and NTA

The leaks disrupted the timelines of approximately 1.4 crore candidates vying for just over 1.04 lakh positions

In a minimum of 15 instances, examinations took place nearly a year subsequent to the leak; in four cases, candidates had to endure a two-year delay, while in seven cases, applicants are still awaiting resolution for re examination

Lack of accountability, evidenced by the absence of arrests or actions taken in most cases, has significantly impacted the lives of thousands of aspirants. This bill holds the potential to instigate change in the current state of affairs
