Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) is a government state university in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India. It was founded in 1954 by the Andhra Pradesh Government with the motive of imparting higher education to rural students of the Rayalaseema region. The university is named after Lord Venkateswara, the deity of Tirumala, and it covers a vast campus of approximately 1000 acres.The university is a state university and is a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Sri Venkateswara University (SVU), Tirupati provides Ph.D. programmes in various subjects such as Sciences, Humanities, Commerce, Management, Engineering, Education, and Social Sciences. Admission generally takes place annually through the university's Directorate of Admissions (DOA). The applicants should possess a Master's degree or its equivalent in the pertaining subject with a minimum of 55% marks (50% in case of SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PwD candidates) for eligibility. The admission is on the basis of the SVU Research Entrance Test (SVU-RESET) followed by viva voce. The entrance examination is multiple-choice-based with questions in Research Methodology and subject-specific material. Candidates need to score a minimum of 50% marks in the written test to be eligible for the interview. Candidates who possess valid qualifications like UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, JRF, SLET, GATE, or M.Phil. are exempted from the written examination but are required to attend the interview. The final merit list is prepared with 70% weightage to the entrance exam and 30% on the basis of the interview performance. The duration of the Ph.D. programme shall be minimum of 3 years and maximum of 6 years, extendable as per UGC guidelines.
