Bangalore  University is a deemed university located in Bangalore,Karnataka, India. Established in 1964. The University was established as an offshoot of the University of Mysore, primarily to include institutions of higher learning located in the metropolitan city of Bangalore and the districts of Bangalore, Kolar and Tumkur, which eventually became a separate University. Initially, the two premier colleges of the city, the Central College (CC) and the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) formed the nucleus of Bangalore University.

The University offers undergraduate, postgraduate, Ph.D., and certification programs across various fields. It has a NAAC “A” grade accreditation and a NIRF Ranking of 81 in the University category.

Bangalore University follows a formal PhD programme admission process governed by its official Doctor of Philosophy Regulations and annual admission notifications. For the 2023–24 academic year, applications were invited in a prescribed format (Application‑A) to be submitted to the Registrar (Evaluation) or designated officer at Jnana Bharathi Campus. Applicants were evaluated either through an Entrance Test or via non‑entrance admission, with provisional and final merit lists—separately published for entrance‑based and non‑entrance‑based candidates—made available on the university’s official portal. The university’s eligibility criteria, as per its official eligibility circular, require a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the qualifying degree in relevant disciplines (e.g. Philosophy, Political Science).
