The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary (WBCHSE) has begun distributing the model question papers for Semester 4 ahead of the West Bengal Class 12th Exam 2026. The WBCHSE Class 12th 2026 exam is all set to commence from February 12 to 27, 2026. The model question papers cover 22 subjects and were made available to schools from the council’s headquarters in Kolkata as well as five regional centres since January 27, as stated by the WBCHSE President Chiranjib Bhattacharya.
The West Bengal Class 12th 2026 Exam will be conducted in offline mode or pen and paper format. The respective teachers have raised concerns over the delay in the distribution of the model question papers, especially those of the science streams. Echoing similar concerns, teachers’ associations have urged the council to ensure earlier access to preparatory materials in future examination cycles to reduce academic stress and allow more structured revision.
West Bengal Class 12th Exam 2026: Distribution of class 12 semester 4 model papers
The West Bengal HS Exam 2026 is all set to be conducted from February 12 to 27, 2026. The WBCHSE has started the distribution of model question papers. Several educators have pointed out that releasing the model papers towards the end of January leaves students with limited time to practise and effectively incorporate them into their exam preparation.
Raja De, headmaster of the state-run Mitra Institution, said the delay could adversely impact students, especially those appearing for science papers. “The distribution of model question papers at this stage leaves very little time for students to make effective use of them during their exam preparation. Science subjects require extensive practice, and students benefit greatly from working through model papers well in advance,” he stated, as mentioned on news forums.
The council has also reiterated its focus on modernising the higher secondary curriculum to align with evolving academic and technological trends. Bhattacharya said that the syllabi of several science-related subjects have been updated to reflect contemporary developments. The curriculum for subjects such as Computer Science and Computer Application has been revised, and new subjects including Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Cyber Security have been introduced at the higher secondary level. Education experts have welcomed the curriculum updates; however, they have also stressed the need for timely academic resources and teacher training to ensure effective implementation.
