UGC NET Result 2024 Normalization Process; Check calculation of percentile and raw score

UGC NET Result 2024: NTA is going to announce the result for UGC NET December 2024 session soon at ugcnet.nta.ac.in. To prepare the scorecards, NTA uses a normalization process for UGC NET result.

UGC NET December 2024: The National Testing Agency will release the result and final answer key for UGC NET 2024 exam soon at the official website. Candidates who appeared for the December 2024 exam session will be able to check and download the scorecards online, once released.

Candidates must note that the UGC NET result will be prepared by following the normalization process for all candidates. The result for UGC NET is expected to be announced in third or fourth week of February, 2025. However, official confirmation by NTA is still awaited. UGC NET December 2024 session was successfully conducted from January 3 to January 27, 2025.

What is UGC NET score normalization?

The National Testing Agency conducted the UGC NET exam 2024 on different dates, usually with two shifts each day. Each shift has a different set of questions, and the difficulty level may vary between the shifts. Some candidates might get an easier set of questions, while others could get a harder one. This can lead to differences in marks, where candidates with harder questions might score lower.

To solve this problem, NTA uses a Normalization procedure based on Percentile Score. This method ensures that no candidate is unfairly advantaged or disadvantaged because of the difficulty level of the exam.

UGC NET 2024 Normalization: Calculation of Percentile

The normalization process for UGC NET is made up of two parts: percentile score calculation and raw score calculation. The raw score refers to the total marks obtained by the candidate in their exam.

UGC NET Percentile Calculation

The percentile score for UGC NET is calculated by transforming the scores into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session of examinees. The percentile score indicates the percentage of candidates who have scored equal to or below that particular percentile in the exam. This means that the topper (candidate with the highest score) in UGC NET exam will achieve 100 percentile. The UGC NET percentile score is calculated by using the formula below:

100 X Number of candidates appeared in the ‘Session’ with raw score EQUAL TO OR LESS than the candidate/Total number of the candidates appeared in the ‘Session’

Preparation of UGC NET Result 2024

The UGC NET result 2024 will be prepared by following the steps given below:

Step 1: Divide Candidates into Two Shifts

The candidates will be randomly divided into two groups (shifts) so that each shift has almost the same number of candidates.

  • Shift 1: Day 1, Shift 1
  • Shift 2: Day 1, Shift 2

Note: If there are more days or fewer shifts, we adjust the groups accordingly to keep things fair.

Step 2: Calculate Results for Each Shift

For each shift, we will calculate two things:

  • Raw Scores: The actual scores each candidate gets.
  • Percentile Scores: This shows how each candidate performed compared to others in the same shift.

Step 3: Combine Percentile and Final Scores

After calculating the percentile scores for each shift, the authorities will combine them. These combined scores are called NTA scores. The NTA scores will then be used to create the final UGC NET result.
