UGC NET 2025: Paper 1 Matters More Than You Think

The UGC NET 2025 Paper I tests the essential teaching and research skills of a candidate. Paper I of the UGC NET exam holds critical importance in the December 2025 exam, contributing 100 out of 300 total marks while serving as a common test for all 85 subjects. Strong performance in Paper I boosts the overall score and differentiates candidates in competitive cutoffs for JRF, Assistant Professor, or PhD eligibility.

 Exam Alert Plus

The Paper I of the NTA’s UGC NET exam is a general paper that includes teaching aptitude, research aptitude, data interpretation, and other related areas, basically aptitude-based questions. “This paper is extremely important, and you should not just aim to qualify it, but also perform well in it to secure a good overall score in the UGC NET examination,” advises Sumit Kumar, Assistant Professor at Kirori Mal College.

UGC NET 2025 Success: Revision is the Key

Revision plays a pivotal role in UGC NET success, transforming months of study into exam-ready retention amid the vast syllabus and competitive cutoffs. According to Sumit Kumar, for last-minute preparation of the UGC NET History exam, the focus should remain on revising basics, strengthening historiographical concepts, and staying informed about recent writings and debates in history. “Staying updated with new books, trends, and interpretations is increasingly important,” he added.

At this stage, rather than hurriedly covering new things, it is important to revise the topics you have already studied. “If you want to add anything new, then touch only those topics or aspects that are very relevant and frequently asked in the examination,” advises Sumit Kumar.

UGC NET 2025: Focus on High-yielding Topics, PYQs

The last-minute preparation for the UGC NET December 2025 exam shifts to light revision, mocks, and mental preparation. It is advisable to avoid any new topics with the exam just days away. Focus on high-yield PYQs and confidence-building to score maximum marks in the computer-based test.

Prof. Sumit Kumar also mentions that another important aspect of the UGC NET 2025 exam preparation is practice. “You should attempt as many questions as possible through mock tests, previous papers, or practice sets available online or elsewhere,” says Sumit Kumar. “This continuous practice ensures that your brain remains in the examination mode and builds confidence,” he added.

UGC NET Exam Day Weapon: Good Nutrition and Sleep

One of the most neglected aspects of our UGC NET preparation journey is our eating and sleep habits,” says Tanya Gulhare, who qualified the UGC NET (Economics) in 2023. She advises NET aspirants to prefer light, home-cooked meals a day before the exam and sleep for at least seven hours to keep their minds recharged. She also urges candidates to focus on sufficient water intake to prevent lethargy or fatigue.

Good nutrition and sleep are foundational for peak cognitive performance during UGC NET December 2025 preparation, enhancing memory retention, focus, and stamina for the three-hour CBT.
