The 2025 UGC NET exam follows a single-session, three-hour format with no scheduled breaks.
- Paper 1 (General Aptitude): This is a mandatory paper for all candidates regardless of their field. It comprises 50 questions (100 marks) covering subjects such as teaching and research aptitude, logical reasoning, data interpretation, ICT, and environmental awareness, as well as higher education systems.

The UGC NET 2025 Paper 1 will assess candidates teaching/research aptitude. It is designed to test the reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the Candidate.
Each question in the UGC NET exam 2025 will carry two marks, for every correct answer candidates will be awarded two marks. There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers, also no marks will be given if the question is unanswered/un-marked.
