NIRF 2025: The Ministry Of Education has released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 today, September 4, 2025 at 11 AM, wherein, colleges and universities of India were ranked based on the five parameters. This year marks the 10th edition of the NIRF rankings. In NIRF Ranking 2025, a new category on Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) has been introduced, along with changes such as negative marking for the retracted papers.
This year, the higher education institutions were ranked in 17 categories including overall, engineering, pharmacy, management, architecture & Planning, agriculture & allied sectors, law, medical, dental, innovation, skill university, open university, State Public university, colleges, research institutions, sustainability development goals and universities. The education ministry introduced three new categories in NIRF last year including open universities, skill universities and state-funding public universities.
IIT Madras has remained on the top position for over the years, when it comes to the best institute in India, followed by the IISc Bengaluru, and IIT Bombay and Delhi. Last year, the NIRF India Rankings were announced on August 12, while in 2023 they were released on June 5. This year, theNIRF Rankings release was delayed after the Madras High Court issued a temporary stay over complaints regarding transparency and data accuracy.
