NEET UG 2025: Know the Reservation policy for MBBS and BDS admissions

NEET UG 2025: NTA follows the reservation policy under the Government of India for medical admissions through NEET. Candidates who belong to reserved categories are required to submit their certificates with NEET application form.

NEET UG 2025: The National Testing Agency is currently accepting applications for NEET UG exam 2025 at the official website, neet.nta.nic.in, This year, NEET UG is scheduled to be conducted on May 4, 2025 in a single shift. Applicants who qualify in NEET UG exam 2025 will be eligible for admission to medical institutions based on their scores and categories.

As per the notification released by NTA, the NEET UG registration window will remain open till March 7, 2025. NTA has laid out a reservation policy for admission to MBBS and BDS programmes. Candidates who belong to reserved categories are required to submit their certificates as per requirement along with their NEET UG application form.

Reservation policy for admission through NEET UG 

Indian nationals who have qualified in NEET UG exam are offered reservation in admissions to MBBS and BDS courses. The reservation policy is designed in accordance with the rules prescribed by the Government of India. Check category wise reservation policy below:

Conditions to claim NEET UG reservation categories

Candidates who wish to claim the reservation category for admission to medical courses must follow the conditions given by NTA. Check category wise conditions provided below:

Candidates claiming the GEN-EWS category

To claim the GEN-EWS category, candidates must possess a valid certificate issued by the Government of India. The certificate must be in consonance with the latest guidelines issued by the Government for claiming the seats under the Economically Weaker Section category. 

Candidates claiming the OBC-NCL category

Candidates must possess a valid OBC-NCL certificate following the guidelines issued by the Government of India. It is advisable to visit the official website for National Commission for Backward Classes to check the latest updates on the Central List of the State-wise OBCs. Meanwhile, candidates belonging to the Creamy Layer of the OBC category will not be entitled for reservation and will be treated as belonging to the unreserved or General category.  

Candidates claiming the SC/ST category

To claim the reserved seats under the SC or ST categories, candidates must possess a valid certificate following the latest guidelines issued by the Government of India. 

NEET UG Reservation Policy for 15% AIQ Central Institutes and Universities

Students who qualify will be invited for NEET UG counselling by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The Committee will conduct counselling for All India Quota 15% seats, 100% BHU Open seats, AIIMS Open seats, JIPMER Open seats, AMU Open and Internal seats, Jamia Open seats, and B.Sc Nursing seats. 

The reservation policy for 15% AIQ seats is provided below: 

  • Scheduled Caste: 15%
  • Scheduled Tribe: 7.5%
  • PwBD: 5%
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 27%
