NEET Result 2025 – Check qualifying criteria & how merit list is prepared?

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to announce the NEET UG Result 2025 on its official website – neet.nta.nic.in. According to a few reports, NEET Result 2025 will likely be announced this week. However, there is no official confirmation yet. To qualify the NEET Exam 2025, candidates must obtain a minimum percentile score according to their category. For General/Unreserved candidates, the minimum percentile score required to qualify the NEET exam is 50th percentile. Similarly, for SC/ST/OBC and UR-PwD, the required minimum percentile score is 45th and 40th percentile, respectively. According to the guidelines laid down by NTA, meeting the minimum requirement ensures eligibility for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other courses; however, it does not ensure the final admission, which is based on the merit list.

NEET Result 2025 – Qualifying Criteria, Marks, & Subject-wise Minimum Percentile

Students must note that the NEET Cut off 2025 is different from the minimum qualifying criteria laid down by the National Testing Agency. Each participating institute releases the NEET Cut off 2025 (opening and closing ranks) for different courses and categories of candidates. NEET Qualifying Criteria –

Candidates must secure the minimum percentile in the NEET examination, which is determined category-wise:

  1. General/Unreserved (UR): 50th percentile
  2. Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backwards Classes (OBC): 40th percentile
  3. General-Persons with Disabilities (UR-PwD): 45th percentile

NEET Qualifying Marks

NEET Qualifying Marks, also known as NEET Cut off 2025 (qualifying), is released by NTA along with the result. Candidates must meet the qualifying cutoff to participate in the centralised counselling process.

NEET Admission Criteria

NEET UG Admission Criteria refers to the admission cut off (opening and closing ranks) released by participating institutes separately.

NEET Result 2025 – How merit list prepared?

The NEET Merit List is of two types – 15% All India Quota seats & the remaining 85% Seats. The merit list of candidates who have opted for 15% All India Quota seats is prepared by NTA based on the marks obtained by students in the NEET UG 2025 exam. The list of successful candidates is forwarded to the Directorate General of Health Services (Medical Examination Cell), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) and National Commission for Homeopathy (NCH), Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India for allotment of seats by Online Counselling to 15% All India Quota Seats.

The merit list for the remaining 85% seats is prepared based on the All India Rank obtained by students. The NEET UG result is shared by NTA to different admitting authorities (stated above). The Admitting Authorities will invite applications for NEET Counselling 2025. The admission or counselling authorities will prepare a merit list for candidates based on their All India Rank and the categories specified by the candidates during the admission or counselling application process, following the applicable state rules.
