The NEET PG 2025 tie-breaking policy is applied when two or more candidates score the same marks to fairly assign ranks. The National Board of Examinations (NBE) uses the following criteria in descending order to break ties:
1. Higher Number of Correct Responses: The candidate with more correct answers in the exam is given a higher rank.
2. Lower Number of Incorrect Responses (Negative Marks): If the tie persists, the candidate with fewer incorrect answers is given preference.
3. Lower Number of Negative Responses in Different Sections: If still tied, the candidate with fewer negative marks in individual sections (Section A, B, C, D) of the question paper is placed higher.
4. Age Factor: If the tie remains unbroken, the older candidate is given the higher rank.
5. Aggregate Marks in MBBS: In some cases, if the tie still persists, candidates with higher aggregate marks (percentage) in the all-India MBBS professional exam may be placed higher. For Indian citizens who obtained their primary medical qualification abroad, the FMGE score is considered instead.
This structured approach ensures fairness and clarity while assigning ranks to candidates with the same scores. The merit list and ranks after applying these tie-breaking criteria determine eligibility for counselling rounds and seat allotment.
