The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has recently moved the different districts of Maharashtra from the Orange to the Yellow Zone as the weather conditions in the state have improved today, on July 8, 2026. The IMD had previously issued a Red Alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Pune and the Ghats of Nashik for July 7, 2026. All the schools in these regions reopened today and functioned in their usual routine. IMD has also issued an orange alert for the Amaravati and Akola districts of Maharashtra, but now both the districts come under the yellow zone. Pune Municipal Corporation and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared holidays on July 7, 2026, for all government, private schools and colleges amid a forecast of extremely heavy rainfall by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Residents of the districts that are on yellow alert are also advised to prepare themselves for the adverse weather conditions and avoid unnecessary travel. Authorities of the municipal corporation did not give any notice on whether the Maharashtra School Holiday 2026 would continue on July 8 or not. The authorities took the step as per the updates received on the weather forecast for today. The authorities have also advised the citizens to believe only in the official information and not in social media forwards. People are advised to avoid waterlogged areas and landslide-prone areas in the state.

Mumbai
All the private and government schools and colleges operated normally in Mumbai, as no holiday was declared by BMC.
Pune
The schools in Pune, as well as in Lonavala, reopened today, on July 8, 2026, by the authorities. The officials have told the media that the decision on July 7, 2026, was taken keeping the safety of students in mind and as the conditions have now improved, institutes can function in their usual routine.
Palghar
Schools in Palghar have also reopened as the region has now shifted to the yellow zone. The schools were previously closed on July 6, 2026, due to heavy rainfall, and the district was on high alert due to heavy rainfall.
Raigad
The school did not close in Raigad today as there were no high alerts in the region. Schools remained closed in Raigad on July 7, 2026.
Amravati
No holidays were declared for school students situated in Amravati today. The chances of heavy rain in Amravati and nearby districts decreased as claimed by the IMD, shifting the region from orange alert to Yellow.
Akola
IMD has put Akola in the yellow alert category for July 8, 2026. This means there are chances of heavy downpour in Akola.

There could be chances of heavy rain in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Pune and the Ghats of Nashik for the coming days. Various weather forecast predictions are showing chances of flash floods, too.
