JEE Mains 2026: Advisory for Candidates Regarding Mismatch of Photographs

The JEE Main 2026 registration window was open from October 31 to November 27, 2025. Upon successful completion of the online application forms, the exam conducting body has observed that some candidates have registered using identity proof documents other than the Aadhaar Card. Therefore, the live photographs captured by the candidates during the application process did not match the photographs as per the records available with UIDAI.

Such candidates can verify their identity by uploading a signed and attested certificate, along with a recent photograph duly certified by their School/College Principal or Headmaster, or from a Class-I Gazetted Officer. The NTA has revised the last date of submission of the certificate in PDF format to January 15, 2026, to facilitate all such candidates. Applicants will then be eligible to download their JEE Mains City Intimation Slip 2026 online. Additionally, a printed copy of the same must be produced at the examination centre for physical verification on the day of the exam.

Candidates must note that the decision of the NTA regarding the allotment of the exam city and exam centre will be final. Candidates cannot request a change of exam city for the JEE Main 2026 exam.

JEE Main 2026: Disconnect Between Degrees and Job Readiness for Females

Despite a 28% rise in women’s higher education enrolment as per the AISHE 2023 report, India is facing a paradox where only 34% to 37% of graduating women are employable, according to the latest Her Path, Her Power report by TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship (TLDA).

The disconnect between degrees and job readiness for females is emerging as one of the biggest bottlenecks in India’s talent pipeline, where females contribute just 18% to GDP despite making 48% of the total population. Engineering records lowest female employability rate at 22%, as per the report.

Seven years ago, postgraduate engineering and technology programmes across the country had 1.85 lakh seats, of which only 68,677 were filled, leaving 63% vacant. In 2023-24, despite total MTech seats shrinking by 33% to 1.24 lakh in response to declining demand, the vacancy rate has inched up to 64%, with just 45,047 students pursuing the degree.

The latest data from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) shows that nearly two of every three MTech seats in India’s engineering colleges lie vacant, a pattern that has persisted even as total postgraduate seats have shrunk by a third since 2017-18.

According to the data, MTech admissions have dropped to a seven-year low of 45,000 students over the last two academic years (a sharp contrast to rising BTech enrollment), with experts blaming this on factors such as lack of value addition from an MTech degree, disconnect between the curriculum and industry requirements and no significant advantages in terms of salaries.
