The National Testing Agency (NTA) has concluded the JEE Main Registration 2026 on November 27, 2025. After registration, all candidates will have the option to edit their application form from December 1 to 2, 2025. As per the official schedule, the JEE Main 2026 exam for session 1 will be conducted from January 21 to 30, 2026. The JEE Main 2026 exam will be conducted in multiple shifts. To equalise the difficulty level across shifts, NTA conducts the normalisation process before announcing the results.
The authority employs a statistical formula to conduct the normalisation process for JEE Main 2026 exam for various shifts. Here, we have explained the JEE Main Normalisation Process 2026 in a simple manner, so that candidates can prepare accordingly.
JEE Main 2026: Normalisation Formula
The JEE Main Normalisation Process 2026 will convert the shift-wise raw scores into percentiles. The Percentile score will be the normalised score for the examination. The formula to be used for JEE Main 2026 normalisation procedure is:
Formula: (100 x number of candidates appeared in the session with raw score equal to or less than the candidate) / total number of candidates appeared in that session
Note–
- The JEE Mains percentile score indicates the percentage of candidates who have scored equal to or below a particular percentile (raw scores) in JEE Main. This means the JEE Main topper of each session will get the 100th percentile.
- In case of candidates who will appear for both attempts, the best of the two NTA JEE Main scores will be used.
- The JEE Main percentile scores will be calculated up to 7 decimal places.
JEE Main Percentile Cutoff 2026: Previous years’ trends
The top 2,50,000 candidates will get selected for JEE Advanced 2026. The agency will also publish the JEE Mains Cutoff 2026 along with the result for candidates eligible for JEE Advanced Exam 2026. Here, we have shared the previous years’ cutoff trends for JEE Main exam.
