The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to start the registration process for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 Session 1 in October 2025. This marks the official opening of applications for one of India’s most important engineering entrance exams that lead to seats in prestigious institutes like the IITs, NITs, and centrally funded technical institutions. The JEE Main 2026 Session 1 will be held from January 21 to 30, 2026, while Session 2 is scheduled from April 1 to 10, 2026, as officially announced by NTA.

According to an official advisory, the JEE Main 2026 application form for Session 1 will go live on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in, in October 2025.​ Candidates must complete their JEE Mains registration online using their Aadhaar card, ensuring that personal and academic details are accurate to avoid discrepancies during the process. Candidates will need to complete registration, fill out the application form, upload documents, pay fees, and print confirmation to be eligible to sit for the JEE Main 2026 examination.

JEE Main 2026: NTA issues Advisory to Update Aadhaar

The NTA has released an advisory for aspirants of JEE Main 2026, emphasising the importance of updating Aadhaar details ahead of the registration process. The agency has instructed students to ensure that their Aadhaar data, such as name, date of birth, address, photograph, and gender, are accurate and current, as these details will be directly fetched from UIDAI through Aadhaar authentication for the upcoming exam.

Candidates are advised to update their Aadhaar data in advance to avoid discrepancies, which could lead to rejection or difficulties during registration. 

It is advisable to prepare all necessary documents in advance and keep track of the registration dates to avoid missing deadlines. Staying prepared with updated documents will be crucial for a hassle-free JEE Main 2026 registration.

    JEE Main 2026: Papers Explained

    JEE Main 2026 consists of three distinct papers catering to different courses:

  • Paper 1 is for candidates aspiring for B.E./B.Tech courses. It includes Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with a total of 90 questions divided into two sections per subject—multiple-choice and numerical value questions. The exam duration is 3 hours.
  • Paper 2A is for B.Arch (Architecture) aspirants. It contains Mathematics, an Aptitude Test, and a Drawing Test, totaling around 82 questions. The Drawing test is offline, while the rest is computer-based.

    JEE Main Registration: Steps to Apply

    Candidates can follow the steps given below to register for JEE Main 2026.

    Step 1: Visit the official JEE Main website at jeemain.nta.nic.in.

    Step 2: Click on the registration link for JEE Main 2026.

    Step 3: Create a new account by providing your name, birthdate, email address, and mobile number. Then, create a password, and an application number will be sent to you.

    Step 4: To access the candidate portal, enter this application number and password.

    Step 5: Fill out the application form with personal details, academic information, and contact details.

    Step 6: Upload scanned copies of the photograph, signature, and category/PwD certificate if applicable.

    Step 7: Pay the required application fee online using a variety of methods, including UPI, net banking, and debit/credit cards

    Step 8: Download and print the fee receipt and confirmation page.

    It is advisble to save and keep the printouts of the application form for future use.
