The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati will be accepting GATE application forms 2026 by today, October 6, 2025. However, with an additional amount of INR 1000, candidates can apply for the GATE exam 2026 by October 9, 2025. through the official portal- goaps.iitg.ac.in. Candidates who haven’t applied yet must ensure that all the required steps including registration, form completion, documents upload and payment of fees for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 are successfully finalised by the end of the day to confirm their eligibility under this extended window.
The GATE exam 2026 is set to be conducted on February 7, 8, 14 and 15, 2026. Candidates registering today must ensure that their uploaded documents– photograph, signature, identity proof and degree certificate, comply with the specifications laid out in the information brochure. Any mismatch or non compliance could lead to the GATE 2026 application form being rendered invalid. In the days following the registration, IIT Guwahati will process the applications, finalize exam city allotments and later release admit cards in due course.

GATE 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Before applying for the GATE 2026 exam, candidates are urged to check the GATE eligibility criteria below:
- Candidates who are currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program or who have completed any government approved degree program in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities are eligible to appear for GATE 2026.
- Candidates who possess certification from any such professional societies must ensure that those examinations are approved by MoE/AICTE/UGC/ UPSC as being equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch./B.Planning, etc.
- Candidates who have obtained/are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India: Candidates must be currently in the 3rd or higher years or must have completed their Bachelor’s degree (of at least three years duration) in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/ Arts/Humanities.
Any candidate fulfilling the above-mentioned criteria is eligible to appear for GATE 2026.
GATE Registration 2026: Revised Application Fee
The fee structure has been updated for this cycle, candidates can check the revised fee structure in the table given below:
- Female, SC, ST and PwD candidates: Rs. 1,000 per paper during the regular period and Rs 1,500 per paper during the extended period.
- All Other Candidates: Rs. 2,000 per paper during the regular period and Rs. 2,500 per paper during the extended period.
GATE Registration 2026: New Subject Introduced
IIT Guwahati has added a new sectional paper on Energy Science (XE-I) that is introduced in the Engineering Sciences (XE) paper. In total, GATE 2026 will cover 30 test papers including Computer Science, Electronics, Electronics and Communications, Mechanical, Electrical and Civil.
Candidates are advised to complete the process well before the deadline to avoid any last minute issue.
