CSIR NET Exam 2025: Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who want to apply for the CSIR NET exam must hold a Master’s degree in Life, Chemical, Physical, Mathematical, or Earth Sciences from a recognised university. The General and OBC applicants must have a minimum of 55% marks, whereas SC, ST, and PwD applicants need 50% to qualify the exam. Final-year students are eligible to apply for the exam but they have to finish their degree within two years to be eligible for JRF. The maximum age limit for JRF is 28 years, with a relaxation of 5 years for SC, ST, and PwD, and 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer). There is no age limit for the Lectureship and Assistant Professorship. CSIR NET 2025 Syllabus covers five major subjects:
- Chemical Sciences: Topics include organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, chemical bonding, reaction mechanisms, quantum chemistry, and spectroscopy.
- Life Sciences: Includes cell biology, genetics, ecology, evolution, physiology, along with molecular biology, biotechnology, and bioinformatics.

CSIR NET Exam Pattern 2025
The CSIR NET 2025 examination contains three parts: Part A (general aptitude with reasoning, graphical analysis, and quantitative ability), Part B (subject-based conceptual questions), and Part C (advanced problem-solving questions). The examination will be conducted in MCQ format and last for 3 hours (180 minutes) for a total of 200-250 marks based on the subject. Negative marking is applicable for Part A and B, whereas, no negative marking is applicable to Part C though questions are difficult.
