There are 23 Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) in India. The first preference of any candidate who appears for the JEE Mains is always IIT. Indian Institute of Technology Madras

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) was set up in 1956 by the German Government. The first Indo-German agreement in Bonn, West Germany, for the establishment of the Indian Institute of Technology at Madras was signed in 1959. IIT Madras has 550 faculty members, 8000 students, and 1250 administrative & supporting staff. The campus is spread over 250 hectares.
